Newcastle United have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of their lunchtime clash with West Ham as it has emerged that Allan Saint-Maximin is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The Magpies are already without Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier, both of whom are out for an extended period, and now key figure Saint-Maximin is set to join them with a knock that could keep him out of action for up to three weeks.

This means that Newcastle will be without arguably their three most influential players as they travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham on Saturday Lunchtime on the back of three straight wins, making the likelihood of a fourth win on the bounce unlikely.

Are Newcastle safe?

Not yet, no.

Although they have gone unbeaten in the last 5 Premier League games, Eddie Howe’s side are currently only 4 points clear of the drop zone, and could well find themselves back in the relegation dogfight should they fail to kick on from their good run of form.

The loss of Saint-Maximin and Trippier, both of whom have been crucial parts of the last five games, is sure to have a massive impact on the side, but as new signings continue to bed in and Bruno Guimaraes is afforded gametime from the start as opposed to substitute appearances, can they cover for the loss of two such crucial parts of the 11?
