Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has, on Friday evening, provided his response to the recent headline-grabbing comments of Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp regarding the Sky Blues’ finances.
Klopp, of course, set tongues wagging across Europe last weekend.
This came upon the German tactician, ahead of his side’s ensuing meeting with Man City, singling out the Sky Blues as one of three clubs in world football – alongside Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain – boasting an unfair advantage owing to their unlimited wealth:
‘Nobody can compete with City,’ Klopp began. ‘You have the best team in the world, and you put in the best striker on the market. No matter what it costs, you just do it. I know City will not like it, nobody will like it. You’ve asked the question, but you know the answer.’
Liverpool, of course, nevertheless went on to get the better of the Premier League champions, owing to a solitary strike on the part of Mohamed Salah.

Speaking during his latest exchange with the media on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Klopp’s recent jibe was put to the aforementioned Guardiola.
In an effort to shift focus back towards his side’s imminent clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, he simply explained:
“Firstly, it’s not a surprise because it is not the first time he has said it. And the second point, it is Brighton.”
When pressed further, Guardiola reiterated:
“I said it’s not the first time he said that in the last five or six years, so Brighton.”
“It’s not a surprise, it’s not the first time he has said it.”
