Liverpool edge past Inter Milan
Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners in a rowdy San Siro over Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, despite being second best for much of the encounter.
The home side looked the more likely to score in both halves, and Liverpool weathered sustained pressure in the first 15 minutes of the second-half as the Serie A champions created plenty of seemingly good opportunities only for the final ball to let them down.
Then, half-time substitute Roberto Firmino opened the scoring, nodding in a header from a corner. From in front of the near post, the Brazilian managed to flick the ball past Samir Handanovic and into the far corner with a delightful finish.

Then, minutes later, Mohamed Salah added his customary goal, and Liverpool’s second, to ensure that Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the second leg at Anfield with a relatively comfortable lead over Inter in a fortnight’s time.
Salah sets new record
In scoring against Inter, Mohamed Salah matched Peter Crouch’s odd Champions League record.
2 – Mohamed Salah is only the second player to score against both AC Milan and Inter Milan in the same Champions League season, after Peter Crouch for Tottenham in 2010-11. Robot.

Managing to net against the top two sides in the Serie A table at present is no mean feat, but given Salah’s form this season, you would back him against just about any defence in world football.
