Manchester United star David de Gea has, on Thursday, provided a fresh insight into his future with the club.
The subject of shot-stopper De Gea’s situation at Old Trafford, of course, has taken its place back centre stage in the headlines over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes amid widespread claims that the Spanish international has rejected the latest contract proposal put to him by the powers that be on the red half of Manchester.
De Gea’s current terms are due to expire in the summer.
According to The Athletic, the former Atletico Madrid talent has been informed that he will be required to accept a cut on his current £375,000-a-week pay packet, if he intends to stay put.
It should be noted, though, that despite his decision to knock back the aforementioned renewal offer, it is understood that De Gea’s intention, as things stand, is to commit his long-term future to United.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, De Gea was quick to reiterate his ‘love’ for his long-time employers, before assuring that he remains ‘very happy’ in England’s northwest:
