Spezia’s topsy-turvy start to the season will be put to the test when they meet with Sassuolo this weekend at the Stadio Alberto Picco with both teams sitting with the exact same record after two games in Serie A.

Luca Gotti’s men played hosts to Empoli on the opening week of action on the domestic front, where M’Bala Nzola scored the game’s only goal in a bit of a snatch and grab from the home side. Inter Milan were up next for Spezia in a game that was dominated by the 19-time champions, as Lautaro Martinez, Joaquin Correa and Hakan Calhanoglu all scored a goal each. Worse yet, they didn’t have a single shot on target in the game from only two efforts towards goal.

As for Sassuolo, they’ve taken the exact same route as their weekend opposition so far this season, where they lost 3-0 to Juventus and beat Lecce 1-0 as Dominic Berardi scored one of the goals of the season with a sensational volley from outside the box that left Wladimiro Falcone between the Lecce posts no chance.

The only difference between the two sides right now is the Coppa Italia results. Spezia walked all over Como in the first round of the competition, as Nzola netted another two goals for himself, with Daniele Verde, David Strelec and Daniel Maldini all getting in on the act too in a 5-1 win.

Sassuolo, however, lost to Serie B strugglers Modena in the first round, where Berardi’s penalty and Kaan Ayhan’s late strike were not enough to see them through.
