Both Brest and Rennes are coming into this latest gameweek off the back of two bitter losses in Ligue 1 as the two clubs now sit right near one another in the table ahead of a must-win encounter at Roazhon Park.
Brest’s defeat at home to Montpellier will go down as one of their worst in domestic football history, as they were destroyed by the travelling side 7-0 in a game where they should have fancied themselves for all three points.
Pierre Lees-Melou’s red card in the second half did not help things, but with them already being 5-0 down by this stage, Michel Der Zakarian’s side can have no complaints off the back of such a disastrous day in Ligue 1. Worse yet, they had just six shots that Sunday and failed to hit the target.
Brest did previously put together a decent run of form, despite the loss to Lens on the opening day. The club managed to get a point off the title challengers Marseille, while also defeating Angers away from home shortly afterwards in game three.
Rennes, however, are struggling this season to carry on their excellent form shown last campaign. They netted 82 goals from 38 games in 2021/22, but they have not scored just four from four games, lost twice, won once, and drawn the other league encounter.
Rennes’ only win this season came in the 2-1 victory at home to Ajaccio, as Martin Terrier and Arthur Theate scored a goal each. Romain Salin and Lesley Ugochukwu were sent off that day and remain unavailable for this one.
