Bayer Leverkusen are looking for an immediate bounce back from their thrilling loss to Monaco in midweek with Xabi Alonso’s men now up into eighth in the Bundesliga ahead of Mainz’s visit to the BayArena.

Alonso’s side were excellent at times in midweek and led the game after Florian Wirtz’s second half goal that came just eight minutes on from Moussa Diaby’s equaliser.

Two late goals from Monaco now mean Leverkusen have plenty of work to do to overturn the 3-2 deficit in the second leg when they head to France next Thursday.

Back in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen are also back in the win column after losing to Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg. They managed to ease past Hoffenheim last time out, as Diaby, Adam Hlozek and Robert Andrich all scored a goal each.

As for Mainz, they are also back in the win column after a 3-1 win over Augsburg. This ended a run of two games with a loss, as Union Berlin and Bayern Munich beat them to send them into 12th right now.
