With the final set of Last-16 fixtures across all three of European football’s club-based competitions now complete, an insight into the country-by-country candidates still in play to clinch glory on the continent come the season’s close has been provided.

And the statistics may come as something of a surprise.

Leading the way is Serie A, with six clubs in contention across the Champions League – Napoli, Inter Milan & AC Milan, Europa League – Juventus and AS Roma, and Europa Conference League – Fiorentina.

Next up comes the Premier League, with a quartet of representatives made up of Chelsea and Manchester City in the Champions League, Manchester United in the Europa League and West Ham United in the Europa Conference League.

Remarkably, Belgium are up next, owing to the presence of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the EL, and both Gent and Anderlecht in the ECL.

From here, the number drops to two, where the under-performing top-flights in Germany (Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen) and Spain (Real Madrid, Sevilla) are joined by Portuguese giants Sporting CP and Benfica.
