Leeds United are eyeing a swoop for on-loan Manchester United talent James Garner, according to reports this weekend.

Garner, 20, is currently in the midst of a stint in the Championship, with Nottingham Forest.

After impressing at the City Ground across an initial loan spell over the 2nd-half of last season, the English starlet was lured back to Forest last summer, in a bid to further aid his chances of breaking into the first-team setup at Old Trafford.

And to say that Garner, particularly over the last couple of months, has taken full advantage of the opportunity afforded to him in Nottinghamshire would be putting it lightly.

Across his last seven appearances in all competitions, United’s highly-regarded academy product has directly contributed to an impressive five goals, including the following assist to tee up Forest’s last-gasp equaliser at Sheffield United on Friday night:

Leeds keen

And, as alluded to above, such stellar exploits on Garner’s part, evidently, have begun to pique the attentions of Manchester United’s Premier League rivals.

As per a report from Alan Nixon of The Sun, one outfit particularly keen to bring the 20-year-old in ahead of next season are Leeds United.

Should the Peacocks maintain their top-flight status through the summer, an official proposal is therefore expected to be tabled. This of course comes less than 12 months on from the Yorkshire outfit landing Dan James from their long-time rivals, hinting that the potential remains for further transfers to develop between the two clubs.

Garner, for his part, is understood to be keen to make the grade back at Old Trafford, but the offer of regular Premier League playing time elsewhere could yet prove too good to turn down.

Southampton, meanwhile, are too keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s development, ahead of a potential loan offer of their own in the summer.
