Aston Villa win wrongful dismissal case ahead of Brentford

Douglas Luiz will not be forced to serve a suspension, it has been confirmed

Premier League outfit Aston Villa have, on Friday, been afforded a timely boost on the personnel front.

The Claret and Blue star set to be available from the off for the latest round of upcoming weekend fixtures? Douglas Luiz.

The name of Brazilian international Luiz, of course, took its place centre stage in the English football headlines in midweek. Unfortunately for all associated with the Midlands club, though, this came for less than positive reasons.

En route to an embarrassing 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Fulham, Villa’s midfield general was sent for an early bath, owing to a highly contentious VAR-backed red card.

The decision, post-match, was widely scrutinised, amid agreement on the part of not only the Villans faithful, but fans across England, that Luiz had been extremely hard done by.

It therefore came as little surprise upon word surfacing that the powers that be at Villa Park had opted to lodge a formal claim of wrongful dismissal.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Aston Villa confirmed that:

‘Douglas Luiz has seen a claim of wrongful dismissal upheld by an independent Regulatory Commission.

‘The Aston Villa midfielder was sent off for violent conduct during Thursday night’s Premier League defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

‘Luiz will now not serve a suspension and is available for Sunday’s fixture against Brentford at Villa Park.’

Douglas Luiz has seen a claim of wrongful dismissal upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission.
